Activation Waterfront and Maritime Management Plan – 12/06/2016

Good afternoon,

On behalf of City Council President Lori Boyer I am reaching out to provide you with some information regarding the next steps in our Activation Waterfront initiative. You are receiving this email because of your expressed interest in this momentum.

Below is a message from Council President Boyer regarding several opportunities for you to submit feedback vital to this initiative.

At this moment, the Northeast Florida Regional Council is under contract to develop a Maritime Management Plan for the City. The plan will inventory current facilities, assess their condition, identify gaps and needs and ultimately prioritize future spending on maintenance and construction. While not focused on private facilities or upland amenities, the data provided by the Plan will be an important foundation for activation.

They have created an online portal as a way to provide feedback about existing facilities on our waterways, such as docks, floating ramps, and adjacent park amenities. This portal features an interactive map as a way to allow feedback about additional services, amenities, or facilities you would like to see. This assessment is not limited to boaters, but seeks broader public input. The portal can be found at: https://unfgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/CrowdsourcePolling/index.html?appid=dd134ccf427d407bbc17eb9f8e9d9802

They have also created a way to provide commentary and ideas for activating our waterfronts through a quick survey. This survey allows for suggestions about types of desired amenities, locations, as well as input about the future direction of our waterways. The data collected from this survey will aid in prioritization decisions for future repairs, dock extensions, additional facilities, enhancements, etc. Again, this survey seeks broad public input, so we encourage you to forward it to anyone you think may be interested. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/activatingduvalwaterways

The Maritime Management Plan has their third and final public input meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the South Beach Park Community Center in Jacksonville Beach. If you have not previously attended one of their meetings, please consider attending this one. Your goals for activation and your knowledge of the waterways in Jacksonville are crucial in validating the data collected from the survey. The meeting is set up as an information and feedback fair so you can come and go as you please. It will give you an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of what this plan will provide and the tools that are available to us as we move forward, to identify for the team any missing facilities or areas of concern, and to influence the recommendations. Additionally, your knowledge of our waterways will help make sure no detail or area is overlooked during this study. More information can be found on the Maritime Management Plan’s website at http://www.jaxboatplan.com.

I will be sending out another email in a few days about next steps for our Activation Waterfront plans. Please stay tuned for this information.
